Bmcc Calendar Spring 2023 – Welcome! Our Manhattan-Bridge program aims to increase the number of racial and ethnic minority students in biomedical science research and provide a pathway from a serving small community college to a master's degree in STEM (Borough of Manhattan Community College [BMCC]). at a high school serving minorities (The City College of New York []). Dr. Melara is the grant manager and principal investigator for this Bridges grant. Dr. Melara is a trained psychiatrist and cognitive neuroscientist. He is Professor and Head of Education at City College, City University of New York. Dr. Melara earned her BA from SUNY Stony Brook and her PhD from SUNY. From the new social research school. He has 25 years of experience as a researcher of normal and impaired cognitive processes in humans. He has published more than 60 peer-reviewed papers designed to identify the cognitive and neural mechanisms that control attention and persuasion in visual, tactile, and auditory stimuli, modalities, perceptual discrimination, and working memory. For this contribution, Dr. Ruglus is a great researcher. Dr. Ruglass is Associate Professor in the Master's in Mental Health Counseling Program, Director of the Addictive Disorders Research (ROAD) Laboratory, and PI of the NIH/NIDA-funded R25 program TRACC-RU (R25DA035161). Over the past 19 years, he has performed critical evaluation, management and monitoring of NIH-sponsored research projects (1 NIH/NIAAA R01 and 2 NIH/NIDA i, R01 and 1 NIH/NIDA grant R25). He is also the PI of a self-funded study designed to inform and reduce referral decisions, and REM students of the City College of New York () REM served as a researcher in a pilot translation study examining fear and antisocial processes in PTSD. He has more than 40 peer-reviewed publications and has presented his work nationally and internationally. For the past six years, he has served as PI, Learning Coordinator and Faculty Mentor at the R25 Education Program (TRACC-RU, R25DA035161) at New York University. Dr. Ruglus will mentor some of the students in the program.
Dr. Goslau was the principal investigator of this study. Dr. Goslau is a professor in the Department of Biology. He has more than 20 years of experience in cell and molecular biology, where he has worked on identifying compounds with anti-inflammatory properties (e.g. black tea extract, black tea enriched with polymethoxyflavones; bioactive substances enriched with polymethoxyflavones) to treat degenerative diseases. . At Bioactive they created a project to activate the mitochondrial-mediated apoptotic signaling pathway as a molecular cancer target. Their work is supported by grants from the NSF and NIH. He supports REM students at BMCC and has received awards for enhancing undergraduate teaching experience in multidisciplinary research programs. Alivya Barry (Liv) is a former high school student studying to get an AA in Psychology at BMCC. Liv spent most of her teenage years training at the country's elite dance schools, but she began her own healing journey at the age of 17 when she fell in love with psychology. Evian Pollack is a graduate student in biotechnology at BMCC. Evian is a BMCC REU (National Science Foundation-Research Experience for Undergraduate Students) Scholar, where she used a literature review to identify the potential antioxidant properties of five African herbs. As part of the Bridges to Baccalaureate educational grant, Evian Dr. She works as an antiviral intern at the Population Council with Jose Romero. The aim of the project is to investigate some plants and their effectiveness against SARS-CoV-2. In the future, Evian wants to continue research as an environmental science researcher. Gabriel is a sophomore studying Biology at BMCC. His interest in research was sparked in his first year in the CUNY Research Fellows Program at BMCC. After completing her first year, she joined the T34 Research Fellowship Program in line with her interest in the biomedical industry and provided excellent mentoring that helped her reach her career. Meanwhile, Gabriel and his teacher, Dr. Giza explores the role of a particular growth factor and how it affects the brain. Through this research, they can use ideas from cell and molecular biology and extend them to neuropsychiatric diseases.

Jahdiel Rondon is a freshman in psychology at BMCC. His curiosity about human nature sparked his interest in the project. Nana Wife Adde Owusu is a first generation graduate from Ghana. She stands out in her third season at BMCC. Nana soon became acquainted with this wonderful project called Bridge, which guaranteed her research experience and an "elephant" salary she never dreamed of.
