The Counting of the Omer (Heb. סְפִירַת הָעוֹמֶר, Sefirat ha-Omer, sometimes abbreviated to Sephira or Omer) is an important verbal counting of forty-nine days that begins with the grain offering. An omer is an ancient biblical measure of the volume of unbroken stalks of grain. Some later rabbinic sources relate the counting of the Omer to the Israelites' experiences in the wilderness.
