Uvu Calendar 2023
Uvu Calendar 2023 – At Utah Valley University (UVU), we continue to develop a culture where we focus our efforts on our students. UVU is a university and community college that prepares every student to succeed in work and life through teaching, service, and committed scholarship. This post covers how service organizations such as the Digital Transformation UVUDivision (Dx) can teach co-ed.
UVU's Office of Cooperative Education defines inclusive pedagogy as teaching, learning, and scholarship that engages faculty, students, and the community in mutually respectful and meaningful collaboration. Consider three combinations of students and faculty, community and faculty, students and community.

First, students learn from teachers, but teachers learn from students. In addition, students help faculty develop scholarships. Second, our community advises faculty and guides scholarship. In addition, our faculty create scholarships that benefit the local community and economy. Finally, our community provides mentorships, internships, scholarships and projects for students and graduates and provides knowledge, understanding, energy and new perspectives to the student community.

Dx at UVU is like other university IT institutes because Dx provides information technology infrastructure such as network, server, storage, telephony, identity, cyber security, etc. Additionally, Dx covers enterprise architecture, product portfolio management, process improvement services, classroom technology, instructional technology, mobile computing platforms, teaching studios, and more.
Dx provides these products and services through full-time, part-time, and some student employees. In addition to their "day job," some of these staff members teach as adjunct faculty in various academic units on campus. In this role, he assists with the coordinated teaching described above.
However, on-campus service organizations such as Dx can fully participate in co-education as members of the wider community. In other words, Dx should guide teaching staff and provide real-world learning experience, data, and guidance. In addition, Dx will benefit from faculty scholarship that informs our work. Dx shall provide mentorships, internships, scholarships and job opportunities for students and graduates. In turn, these students will bring new knowledge, energy, and perspective to Dx. This insight from students on their experience with the services provided is very valuable and will certainly improve the services provided.

So what does it take to change Dx? Yes, several tasks, strategies and ideas are needed:
Digital transformation is more than just technology and usage; It's about changing mindsets, processes, and culture. It is time for Dx and other service organizations on campus to directly benefit our students. Dx staff and all units on campus should be teachers, mentors and role models for students to learn and grow. We have a great opportunity to impact the world in a positive way. Join me on this great hunt!
In a recent Deseret News article, Samuel Benson wrote that Utah Valley University (UVU) is leading the high-tech revolution. He makes several important points:

In response to Mr. Benson's article, some people asked what makes UVU different from other institutions. What is UVU's secret sauce? Well, that's a question worth answering. It has nothing to do with what we do as we are. The rest of this post will cover who we are, the culture of UVU and what we are and will be.
In Clayton M. Christensen's book, The Innovator's Dilemma, he discusses how established industries must change to remain competitive. If he is unwilling or unable to change, he will face defeat. We are all familiar with GAFA or Google (1998), Amazon (1994), Facebook (2004) and Apple (1976). I'm old enough to remember alternative search engines, bookstores, MySpace, and computer companies like Digital Equipment Corporation, Compaq, and IBM. While some still exist, they have become less important in areas dominated by the Big Four. what is going on? The innovators, who founded the Big Four, disrupted the existing market place and the former big players could not or did not compete. By the time they realized they were in danger of losing the market, it was too late.
According to Britannica, the first true university in the West was founded in Bologna at the end of the 11th century. Interestingly, Britannica, an institution older than the United States, is only a quarter of the age of the university. Modern, it is still. 2012 sold a 32 volume encyclopedia for $1400, must convert to new market. Britannica has stopped printing the collection, which has been printed annually since 1768, and now offers an annual online subscription for $70.

Like Britannica and many other companies in many industries, higher education must adapt to changing needs and requirements. If higher education institutions are unwilling or unable to change, they will become irrelevant. Our students will demand and deserve education from us in a format they can and will use. They will claim that their education leads to good work. Employers want to equip students and graduates with the hard and soft skills they need to stay competitive. Ultimately, society demands higher education that provides all of the above without sacrificing the education that will enable students to be productive and civil members of our society.
History, Clayton Christensen, and GAFA teach us that if we fail in higher education or are unwilling to adapt, we will be replaced by innovators who actively offer modern education. . We see some of this growing with Google, Microsoft Learning, Big Learning, Hackbright Academy, Dev Mountain, Western Governors University Academy, BYU Pathway Worldwide and others. So how do we adapt to changing needs and demands while maintaining our identity as a university? Part of the solution is to use information technology and applications where and when they can improve student success, learning rates and completion, while reducing completion time and costs.
While nearly all higher education institutions are bringing classes online, training teachers to work remotely, and improving IT infrastructure, UVU is truly changing the education landscape. It starts with the extraordinary work culture that has been developed by our students, faculty and staff over the years. Our student body is diverse, inclusive and strong, our faculty places student success above their career aspirations, our passionate staff actively engages with students to help them succeed, our institution Focused on student success and our president, Dr. Astrid Tuminez, speaks with our students, knows what education is, education can be for them, also knows how and where technology can help.

Digital transformation is changing the way organizations do business. In our case, it's about making education more accessible, with less administrative burden on students and faculty. Digital transformation is about using technology in the right way, in the right place and at the right time to help students achieve their educational dreams and succeed.
To do this, digital transformation efforts must be aligned with organizational goals and strategies. UVU has a unique strategy document called Vision 2030. Vision 2030 includes UVU's mission statement that reads: "Utah Valley University is a comprehensive university and educational community college. Vision 2030 outlines three strategies:
To ensure that our digital transformation efforts are aligned with the corporate strategy, we created a strategy map with the support of PM2 Consulting, which is a diagram representing our strategy, organized on one page. .

At the top and center of the strategy map, we place the organization's mission or vision statement. On the left side of the map are four perspectives: Customer or Stakeholder, Internal Process, Facilitator, and Financial.
In each angle, we set some strategic goals. Arrows show how one or more strategic objectives contribute to the achievement of another. Our strategy map is shown in Figure 1. For details on creating a strategy map, see my post, Digital Transformation Strategy.
UVU's digital transformation department is pursuing an institutional strategy for student success, involving all students, and engaging our partners. We do this by delivering engaging experiences, delivering transformative solutions, strengthening partnerships and providing exceptional portfolio management training. The strategy is supported by a culture of feedback, which promotes UVU's values and empowers our employees.

I am very happy with our strategy, only good with tactics and ability to make necessary changes and progress. So what have we done? Like nearly all higher education institutions, in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, we immediately strengthened the school network, increased cyber security, improved classroom technology to enable different teaching methods, Including remote instruction, live streaming, buying several hundred laptops for students. . to check out from the library, and shops with several hundred Wi-Fi hotspots to provide connections for students with unlimited data bandwidth. However, as we address the immediate needs of students and faculty, we have also made changes to the post-pandemic world of higher education:
In addition to these organizational changes and reforms to encourage focus and change
