Cal Poly 2023-2024 Academic Calendar – Schedule Builder, an alternative to PASS (Project Student Schedule), is located in the Student Center and works with Degree Planner to create a seamless user experience.

The schedule builder is only available to students who are active in a given period. Students who are not active can still view Cal Poly's online course schedule by viewing the class search.

You will be greeted with a welcome message that displays information and timely messages related to the registration process.

Selecting "Skip this message in the future" will silence the message for future visits. The message will be updated as the content changes.

Step 2: Select the correct available term from the Term drop-down menu, view your scheduled and/or enrolled courses for that term.

Scheduled courses and registered courses will be entered directly into the timetable generator for that term. Students can choose to remove courses from their shopping cart or waitlisted courses using the drop-down menu. It's easy to tell where a lesson is taking place based on the icon in the Status column (see "11. What do the icons on the home page in Builder mean?" in the FAQ below).

If a course is not removed from your scheduled, registered, shopping cart or waitlisted courses, the Import Course option can be used to manually refresh the page.

Unavailable times can be set and used as a filter when searching for classes. This filter can be disabled if the results are too limited.

To see all class offerings, including classes that are closed, full, or waitlisted, check both class status filter options (select both "Open" and "Waitlisted").

As of fall 2021, six different teaching modes are available at Cal Poly: synchronous (fully online with set meeting times), asynchronous (fully online with no set meeting times), synchronous/asynchronous hybrid, in-person, individual/synchronous. hybrid and personalized/asynchronous hybrid.

Section filters can be used to search for courses in specific categories. Students may choose to explore the GE (General Education) area, US Cultural Competency (USCP) courses, or Graduate Writing Requirement (GWR) courses.

Students are able to select multiple section filters, but section filters do not overlap. If a student selects a GWR filter and a USCP filter, the Builder will include all GWR courses and all USCP courses in the search results.

Students can search for a course directly by entering the subject and catalog number in the drop-down fields. When searching for a course, these two fields are required (note the red star).

Use the Add Courses button to select courses that the Builder will use to create course options. By selecting a course in the sub-navigation, a student can choose from a wide range of components used to create a program. If the student does not select specific course units, the scheduler will create a course plan selection with all available units.

Once a course has been added, the student can click on either the course or the Select Section button to view additional class details and seat availability.

The number of free and reserved seats is given for each part of the class. If the student has selected the "Open" class status filter, only open sections will be displayed.

If the student selects the Open class status filter and the Waitlist class status filter, all sections will be displayed. A yellow exclamation mark in the "Waitlist Open" column indicates that the section has an open waitlist. The waiting list counts from the total number of seats to zero (eg 89/99 means 10 waiting list seats have been taken).

Up to ten (10) courses may be used when creating a program. Select Build Schedule to see the options.

Students may choose to save up to five (5) favorite programs. Indicate a program as a "favorite" by clicking the heart icon.

From the program, students can view class locations on a map by clicking the three (3) dots in the upper right corner of the screen:

Once a desired program is located, a student can confirm the program, add the class to their shopping cart, or enroll in the class directly. Select the green "Register" button to view these options.

This option is useful prior to the student's intake appointment. The verification function will check whether the student meets the requirements for the selected courses. If an authorization number is required during the registration process, the student will be notified prior to the admission appointment.

If enrolling in direct classes, the student will select each class and complete any required information related to the enrollment transaction.

Schedule creation error: Creating a course schedule with a course that allows you to enroll multiple times in the same period

The Schedule Builder automatically validates your schedule when you select "Build Schedule". If your program includes a course that allows multiple enrollments in the same term, you will receive the following error:

If you are creating a schedule that includes a course that allows for multiple enrollments in the same period, please add that course directly through your Student Center. Do not confirm your schedule before registering.

Generally, courses that allow multiple enrollments in the same term will appear in the Cal Poly course catalog.

When registering for a variable unit course through the timetable builder, the "maximum" unit value is currently not displayed correctly.

For example, if the module is offered for modules 1-4, the timetable generator will only allow you to register for modules 1-3. If the module is offered for 1-2 modules, the timetable generator will only allow you to register for 1 module.
