Etsu Academic Calendar 2023 – East Tennessee State University students will not see tuition or fees increase this year after the school board unanimously approved no increase in funding from the Finance and Administration Committee.
Dean of Student Kara Gilliam commended the board for not raising tuition fees and encouraged members to continue to find ways to keep the cost of higher education in the district as low as possible.

"I just want to congratulate everyone on the school's 0% rating," Gilliam said. "I think yes, we are competitive and comparable in our tuition rates across the state, but I just think across the country we have a problem where higher education is lower and cheaper."

During his report, ETSU President Dr. Brian Noland expressed concern about the school's future financial situation due to the financial crisis and said it would be difficult for the school to continue without raising tuition and fees in the future.

"As I look to the future, it will be difficult for us to keep prices zero (up) because everything is more expensive and those who are stressed are our employees," said Noland. Noland said. "So when I look to the future, financial stress and the price of goods and services are something we have to keep in front of us."
The Committee for 125 Chapter II, the long-term vision for the school to reach its 125th anniversary in 2036, received its final green light from the administration on Friday.
Noland said he looks forward to those goals now that the plan has been approved by the council, which provided input on the plan during the quarterly meeting in February.

"The new vision for the school is not different from the previous one and it is not different from our mission to improve the quality of life for the people in this area," Noland said. "It's just that the needs of the people in this area are declared because of COVID."
