Cuny Calendar Fall 2023 – For the second consecutive year, the CUNY School of Professional Studies (CUNY) was named a Military Friendly® School by MilitaryFriendly.com and received a Bronze award for 2022-2023.

"It is gratifying to see that Military Friendly® has once again recognized CUNY's efforts in supporting our military students and veterans," said Christopher Leydon, associate director of student services, who oversees military and veteran services at CUNY. "We are proud that our student body includes veterans who have served our country faithfully and dedicated service members who continue to do so. We value their continued contributions to the CUNY community and are honored to support their success by providing a variety of services. Scholarship opportunities and individual support from lecturers and staff."

For an example of the school's extensive support, see CUNY U.S. Military high school completion scholarship that covers all remaining tuition and fees not reimbursed by the Department of Defense to enable active duty military students to earn their bachelor's degree degree from CUNY without paying a dime themselves.

US Coast Guard CPO Matthew J. Maicher, who is currently in CUNY's BA program in Communications and Media, was motivated by this scholarship to complete his bachelor's degree to pursue a career in marketing or brand management.

Nearly two decades earlier, Maicher had started an undergraduate program, but later found that the student loans he had accumulated from his courses were a significant obstacle to continuing his education — until he enrolled at CUNY and received that scholarship.

"The knowledge that the future costs will be covered by a scholarship has created a feeling of freedom that allows me to grow both in teaching and in life," said Maicher. "I am truly grateful for the wonderful students, faculty and staff at CUNY."

The Military Friendly Schools ® list is compiled each year based on extensive research using public data sources from more than 8,800 schools nationwide, contributions from veteran students, and responses to the Friendly ® Schools proprietary survey from participating military institutions. The questions, methodology, criteria and weighting were developed with the help of an independent research firm and an advisory board of teachers and employers. The survey is conducted free of charge and is open to all high schools that wish to participate. The judging criteria can be found on the Military Friendly website.
