Kalispell School Calendar 2023-2024 – The Julian calendar was introduced by Julius Caesar to create a more standardized calendar and replace the complex Roman lunar calendar. In 1582, the Gregorian calendar, still in use today, replaced the Julian calendar to better align calendar dates with the equinoxes and solstices. However, the Julian calendar continues and is still used in astronomy today. The modified version is commonly used to track MREs (Meals, Ready-to-Eat) and food industry data. In this usage, the Julian date refers to a specific day of the year.

At Natural Foods, we use julienne dates to track the harvest date of many of our products. You can find the date next to the barcode as XX-XXX. The first two digits are the last digits of the year and the three digits after the hyphen are the days of that year. For example, the Julian date 21-001 represents the first day of 2021, or January 1, 2021, and the Julian date 22-165 represents 165.
