Because TU continues to attract a diverse student population. When classes begin on campus Monday, TU will welcome the most diverse freshman class in its history.
Of the nearly 2,700 freshmen on campus this fall, 48 percent identify as minorities. And 25 percent of the class is African American. Both numbers mark new highs for TU, where President Kim Schetzel's priorities include the continued growth of a diverse and inclusive campus.
But it doesn't stop there. This fall, 22 percent of TU's incoming students are first-generation college students. The class also has some impressive academic credentials.

TU freshmen earned an average high school GPA of 3.62 with an average SAT score of 1140. About 13,000 students applied and fewer than 9,700 were admitted. The final number of students enrolled was about 2,700—about 83 percent of them from Maryland. The remaining 32 come from other states and 25 from other nations.
