Umass Amherst 2023 Calendar
Umass Amherst 2023 Calendar – AMHERST, Mass. The change will push back the start of the university weekend two weeks later than usual. However, some students have started an online petition against it.
"When the schedule changed, I talked to my friends, we were all very upset to think about what to do, because now the graduation day of the agreement is over, I was very upset, so I started to take action," he said. said UMass junior Hailey. Rossman.

Roseman is a young UMass-Amherst advocate for change. She started a petition against the school's decision to make the previous winter break six weeks longer than the 3.5 weeks, and then move the graduation date to 2023 two weeks later than the usual date.
Scholars Award Recipients Announced
"I wrote that petition basically sending a letter to the UMass administration. But the main reason I wrote it is the biggest problems most people face when their contract expires or after graduation… There is a lot of pressure not to students because it's the last day of final exams, before graduation, on the 25th, and then you have to leave on the 25th," Rossman explained.
"As someone who does a summer internship and works in the summer, it's a little stressful because you have less time," said Sara Akbar, a first-year graduate student at UMass.
"I think it's a great decision, because the fall and spring semesters are especially long for me, and I think that when we have more time over winter break, it might allow more students to take classes." to select those during winter break," said UMass Karolos Iprahir.
The Amherst Current
Western Mass News contacted UMass Amherst officials to find out why the change was made. He told us in part:
"This decision was decided to benefit UMas students academically in different ways, and it was announced a year ago to have time to plan for the future, and the change was studied and accepted by the Senate, the Council senate, information and suggestions from students and others. members of the campus community, noted that the new extended winter semester allows students to take credit courses outside of the fall and spring semesters."
The students we talked to said that they feel that the university is not focusing on all the students in the school when making this new decision.

"I think you have to look at the number of students in winter classes and students in high school. I don't know if it makes sense that a small part affects everyone," said Akbar.
Rossman said, "They repeatedly took the students' input and got our input, but the people I talked to even talked at one point about extending winter break and pushing back the start." Amherst's new initiative seeks to reaffirm the university's values of equality, inclusion and belonging for all, and to build a sense of unity.
