We continue to work with SCTA to find an effective solution to recover the learning time students lost in the recent strike. The county and SCTA exchanged proposals on April 25 and again on May 4.

Clubs And Activities

Last night's board meeting approved the traditional calendar for the 2022-2023 school year, and you can view it here. Traditional school attendance calendar for 2022-2023. provides students, parents and community members with an opportunity to plan for the school year. This schedule contains the dates of student attendance. The annual staff work plan is still being finalized and will be discussed with working partners.

Did you know that 1 in 5 public schools in California has a dedicated art teacher? Vote Arts and Music is a ballot initiative to increase funding for arts and music programs in California schools. The vote will not raise taxes and provide an accountability process for schools to report how money is used to provide arts and music programs to students. Learn more at voteartsandmusic.org

During the weekend of May 21st and May 22nd, between 11am and 4pm each day, stop by Tahoe Elementary School at 3110 60th Street to see murals created by many local artists (Saturdays) and live music, Display, Food Truck and enjoy yourself. You won't want to miss the free community fair open to everyone at Luther Burbank High on Saturday, May 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free meals will be provided by the Central Kitchen Food Truck (sponsored by SMUD), plus check out the great reveal of the new Central Kitchen truck design! Meet Slamson and the Sacramento Kings 916 Crew, watch live hip hop entertainment, be inspired by Fix Tomorrow's motivational speakers, pick up free groceries from the Sacramento Food Bank, get your bike fixed for free by Area Bikes in Sacramento, get a COVID-19 test Get it or get vaccinated, and much more! The best part is that our selected Open Walls student artists will be painting live during the event.

We received an overwhelming response to our call for student artists to paint live at the Luther Burbank High Community Fair on Saturday, May 21st. In fact, hundreds of students applied! We are very proud of our creative students who submitted works for consideration. Congratulations to the following student artists selected for the Wide Open Walls Jam!

All members of the community are invited to apply for the period 2022-2024. in the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) of the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP). Applications are due May 20, 2022. You can download the application here or hard copies are available upon request at the Serena Center or the school campus office.

This is a free and confidential resource that allows you to access mental health benefits that are already covered by your insurance.

The Sacramento Department of Youth, Parks and Community Development is hosting free, inclusive sports for all abilities for youth ages 3-12! The newly reconstructed Universal Universe is all about the "solar system" and inclusion. Spend time experiencing new musical styles, choreographed activities, face painting, parachute games, crafts and more! The event takes place this Saturday, May 7, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Register here or on the site on the day of the event.

Students 14 and older are invited to participate in a conversation to decide what Aggie Square could be. Organized by the Sacramento Language Academy and the City of Sacramento Youth Commission, this one-of-a-kind event will give students the opportunity to learn about and design programs for the development of the Aggies Square Project. The Sacramento County Office of Education will host two summer camps for students in grades 6-8 the weeks of July 18-28, 2022. Using computer science concepts and tools, there's an environment-focused camp where students can learn how to build tracking sensors environmental health. There is also a camp for girls that focuses on building relationships with programming, robotics and computer science advisors. Learn more and register here.

Across California, including Sacramento County, we are seeing an increase in positive cases of COVID. Layered prevention strategies such as vaccination coverage and wearing masks can help prevent serious illness and reduce the burden on the healthcare system. We want to remind our community that masks are strongly recommended by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), although they are not currently required in our schools. Free face masks are available in all schools and municipalities.

Kennedy and McClatchy Boys Tennis Advance to CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Tennis Team Championship. McClatchy Season Monday Quarterfinals vs. Rocklin Monday Continues! The West Campus CIF Sac-Joaquin Section is at the Student Tennis Team Championships and will travel to Liberty Ranch on Monday for the quarterfinals.

A: No, these events will continue as currently scheduled, regardless of the outcome of our lost conversations with our contributors.

Question: What if my student cannot attend school in the event of an extension of the school year due to pre-arranged plans?

A: As we always do, we will evaluate each application and evaluate the alternatives. We encourage your student to come to school. However, if you have events planned in advance, we want you to speak to the school site administrator and let them know your situation as soon as possible.

By paying the same dollar amount to SEIU, instead of the percentage-based bonus proposed to SCTA, the district pays hourly workers significantly more than the wages they receive based on the percentage-of-pay bonus. These dollar amounts reflect the district's commitment to equity and social justice for all employees.

A: The District proposed to continue paying 100% of Kaiser's health care costs for SCTA-represented employees and their families, and up to Kaiser's premium level for those employees in the HeatNet plan. In addition, for the 2022-23 school year, the district will provide a subsidy to cover 100% of the cost difference between Kaiser health plan premiums and HealthNet health plan premiums. The district will pay 50% of the difference between the Kaiser Health Plan fee and the HealthNet health plan fee for the 2023-24 school year. The district also proposed a $3,000 bonus to employees who switch from HealthNet to Kaiser by June 30, 2022.

A: No. County employees are not required to switch to Kaiser. They can stick with HealthNet if they choose to. The district will pay for the next two years
